Sewing Made Easy · the card deck by Collette Costello

Sew like Nanna did

My Nanna Betty, born 1915 in Salford, taught me how to sew when I was a little girl. We would spend cosy Sunday afternoons together, sewing and sharing stories. Because of her I became a fashion teacher. Now I want to share her sewing skills with you.

One card, one technique. Five cards, one finished make. Pick something to make, learn the five cards it needs, then sew it.

How it works

1. Start here

Learn the three starter cards first: threading your machine, starting to sew and what to do when it won’t sew.

2. Pick a make

Each make lists the cards to learn first, in the order you’ll use them.

3. Learn, sew, finish

Work through each card and try it on scrap fabric. When you’ve done them all, sew your make.

Start here

Everyone starts with these three cards. Learn them once and you’re ready for any make.
